Leadership styles differ according to the situation and the organizational culture. Some of the main leadership styles are as follows:
1. Democratic : Decisions are taken by the leader after consulting members of his team. Participation by all members of the team is encouraged and work is delegated based on the interests of team members. However, some team members may perceive the leader to be weak and so unsure of himself , that the opinion of team members is required before taking any decision.
2. Hands off leader: May assign work initially to team and group members, but is not involved in day to day activities. This leadership style is suitable for organizations which hire highly motivated and skilled employees. These employees may resent interference and close monitoring of their activities.
3. Autocratic leader: Expects all subordinates to follows instructions and complete tasks exactly as assigned to them. Feedback from team members in not requested. This leadership style is suitable for manufacturing organizations where production targets have to met and many of the workers may not be highly educated. Most people are familiar with this management style and will have little difficulty adapting to it.
